In addition to our upcoming art shows, take a look at our activities from the previous week:
Kindergarten-8th Grade: Odyssey through the Arts
Students participated in the third installment of the Odyssey through the Arts Program: Architecture. Thank you to parent volunteers for giving of your time and knowledge. Students learned all about Modern architecture of Chicago, both skyscrapers and bridges, from architects Frank Gehry, Renzo Piano and Jeanne Gang. (See the PowerPoint on the school web page for art under "Specials.") Students showed great enthusiasm seeing familiar buildings and landmarks with which they have interacted before. Some grades engaged in related activities, from pipe cleaner creations that used organic line -- like Gang -- to a readaloud of Iggy Peck, Architect to a quiz game featuring all architects from this year (6th grade truly proved their mettle!), pictured below.
First Grade May Day Festival
First grade students also combined their skills in visual art, music and dance (P.E.) with their May Day festival on May 1. Below is a photograph of the crowns they completed in art. Photos from the event itself are available on the school Facebook page -- be sure to check it out.
