Kindergarten
Kindergarten students used their skills to create 3-D vases with patterns and designs, as well as beautiful, colorful flowers popping off the page as a gift to their mothers in time for Mother's Day. Students had no limits to their creativity. Many students created flower "flaps," under which they wrote a kind and caring message to their moms (one is pictured below)! How sweet!
First Grade
First graders this week flip-flopped activities from last week: one class, who did the Grant Wood lesson last week, had their Odyssey through the Arts presentation this week, and vice versa. Pictured is a pair of first graders creating their landscapes after learning about Grant Wood's pride in the Midwest.
Second grade also created landscapes with dazzling colors and patterns; however, they will take their projects one step further by turning them into a personal keepsake: their own, handmade puzzle! Students drew on 100-lb card stock in order to ensure the longevity of their puzzles. Check back soon for updates after second grade cuts the pieces carefully to complete their hard work!
Third Grade
Monday's third grade shared in the Odyssey Through the Arts: Documentary Photography discussion; Friday's class was postponed due to 4th Grade Step Up Day.
Fourth Grade
Fourth grade completed their pointillism artwork Wednesday. I am excited for their next project exploring the words of famous artists and creating an "interactive" artwork of their own!
Also, below are some of the students' pictures from unique angles and perspectives from their previous lesson!
Fifth Grade
After the creation of their storyboards, 5th grade was ready to experiment with digital animation using the Puppet Pals HD app for Apple iPads! Students worked in small groups collaborating and voicing different characters for one another. Great job, 5th grade!
Sixth Grade
Sixth graders completed their famous artist-inspired portraits! Upcoming will be a special lesson combining what students have learned about sign language with Miss Foyle in Religion class with their knowledge of watercolor techniques and multimedia processes!
Seventh Grade
Wow! Seventh grade really showcased their talents this week wrapping up their dynamic Mexican art-inspired portraits. The lively colors and pointillism techniques really seem to pop off the page! We are also proud of those students whose work will be featured in the Art on Sedgwick community fundraiser; they are truly wonderful ambassadors of ICSJ!
Eighth Grade
Eighth grade did not meet for art class, but they did have their fair share of art exposure during our field trip to Misericordia, where stunning artwork of residents was on display. It was truly inspiring to see! Students also listened to the inspired words of Sr. Rosemary, who advised students that the happiest people are "those who learn to live with mystery."
I wonder how we might embrace that mystery in our own art?
