Congratulations to our graduated eighth graders!

This week we celebrated eighth grade graduation, an exciting new milestone for the class of 2014.  We wish them all the best and hope they can make it back to ICSJ from time to time!

Kindergarten

Only one Kindergarten class met this week as they, too, are celebrating the end of the year and moving on.  Kindergarteners learned about large cats from the African desert before creating their own multimedia African lions using a mixed media of crayon, paint and yarn.  These radially balanced portraits are just lovely.  We hope you have a wonderful summer, Kindergarten!

Also, here are some of last week's "grouchy" ladybugs.

First Grade

First grade finalized their Rainbow fish with paper sculpture details.  This project turned out beautifully and is truly a confidence builder!  Great job, first grade!

Second Grade

Second grade finished weaving their 2-D paper vases before adding elements of paper sculpture to create 3-D flowers of all shapes and sizes.  Lovely work, second grade!

This student opted to turn his vase upside down to make an octopus!  A very creative choice.

Third Grade

Third grade finalized details of their Kuna-inspired Panama art animals. Students learned about layering and creating concentric shapes with intricate detail!

Fourth Grade

Fourth grade finished their interactive works of the masters!  Take a look at the fourth graders hard at work, and then see the 6th grade enjoying becoming part of the paintings!

Here they are ready to go:

Sixth grade takes advantage of the fun in this next series.  (You may notice a bit of motion blur in the second frame of "The Scream" series, most likely because of laughter.  Can you tell who is in the second frame?)

True stoics:

Fifth Grade

Fifth graders completed beautiful watercolor backgrounds for their Art Deco buildings!  Next week we will add a few more details and take these artworks home.

Sixth Grade

Sixth grade finished their Sign Language Self-portraits; then, they had some fun becoming part of the fourth graders' "interactive" masters paintings (see above)!

Seventh Grade

Seventh grade learned about basic cinematography terms related to types of shots and angles used by moviemakers.  Then, we watched a selection from Disney's African cats, observing these different types of shots and angles in action and detecting the impact of a filmmaker's choice.  Great job, seventh grade!

Here is a photo from last week's surrealism:

Eighth Grade

Eighth grade did not meet this week, but here is a belated look back at their interview with illustrator Wendell Minor!

Next week, only one third grade, both fifth grades, and first and second grades will meet.  To all other grades, have a happy, healthy, and relaxing summer!
